WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT CATCHING CORONAVIUS?

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus
  • only travel on public transport if you need to
  • work from home, if you can
  • avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas
  • avoid events with large groups of people
  • use phone, online services, or apps to contact your GP surgery or other NHS services

Don’t

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
  • do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family

 

WHAT DO I DO IN CASE I SUSPECT I HAVE CORONAVIRUS?

If you have any Coronavirus symptoms you must stay at home

Stay at home if you have either:

When you show symptoms you must stay at home for at least 7 days. All the people that live with you or had any recent contact with you must self-isolate for at least 14 days.

If you’re living in a host-family, make sure everyone in your house know about your symptoms and call Westbourne Academy on the emergency phone number to notify us.

If you’re staying in a private accommodation make sure you call Westbourne Academy on the emergency phone number to notify us as soon as possible.

It is very important you do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital!

It is essential that you do not leave the house under any circumstance if you show Coronavirus symptoms. Instead you should seek medical advice online or by phone.

Use the 111 coronavirus service to find out what you should do.

Call the NHS 111 online coronavirus service only if you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home or you cannot get help online.

There is currently no specific treatment for coronavirus. Antibiotics do not help, as they do not work against viruses. The only way to recover is to stay in isolation, away from other people, until you have recovered.

WHAT IS WESTBOURNE ACADEMY DOING ABOUT CORONAVIRUS?

1. We are requesting that our Agents check whether their students have been to any Category 1 regions in the 14 days prior to their scheduled arrival at Westbourne Academy or been in close contact with those from any of these areas. We are also asking them to check if the students have any symptoms of Coronavirus. Students that have had any connection to a category 1 area or show any symptoms of Coronavirus should not travel to the UK.

2.We are following guidelines provided by Public Health England and checking UK government updates daily.https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

3.We are informing all students, staff and homestay providers of the symptoms outlined below and Westbourne Academy advises students and staff to stay at home, contact the school and seek medical advice on 111 if they are feeling unwell.

4.Our staff have been made aware of the advice given by the UK government on how educational institutions should operate during the outbreak period, and will act on this accordingly.

5.We have put in place measures at our school to try and minimise the spread of all illnesses and diseases, including providing hand sanitiser and guidance on the prevention of spreading germs. There are posters throughout the school with advice and information.

6.We ask homestay families to support the safety and well-being of any student they are hosting. As such, they will support any student they receive to their full capacity. If a student shows symptoms similar to COVID-19 they will contact us on the 24-hour emergency number and we will contact the local Health Service for advice. The student will not be asked to leave the property unless an alternative accommodation has been arranged.

The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to some countries/ areas due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Check the FCO foreign travel advice page for the latest advice and details:

What measures are being taken to protect the UK? 

On Monday 16 March 2020 the UK Government asked everyone in the UK to stop non-essential contact with other people and avoid all unnecessary travel. This is known as social distancing.

The government wants:

Health protection teams have been in place at Heathrow since 22 January 2020 and in Gatwick and Manchester since 29 January 2020.

On Tuesday 3 March 2020 the UK Government announced its Coronavirus action plan setting out the steps the it will take to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the UK.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT CANNOT TRAVEL BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT POLICY or AIRLINES ARE NOT OPERATING?

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SCHOOL HAS TO CLOSE?

  1. We will provide extra lessons to cover any lessons lost when the school reopens  or continue to deliver lessons online.
  2. If this is not possible we will credit any outstanding lessons for students that need to return home so that they can return to study at WA at a later date within 12 months.
